Entry needs a competitive academic record, [IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0](https://policies.anu.edu.au/ppl/document/ANUP_000408), and an [AUD 150 application fee](https://study.anu.edu.au/apply/international-applications). Here is what Saudi applicants need to know. ## Where does ANU rank? | Ranking | ANU position | Position in Australia | Source | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | QS World University Rankings 2027 | 29th | 4th | [ANU, 18 June 2026](https://www.anu.edu.au/news/all-news/anu-climbs-in-qs-world-university-rankings) | | THE World University Rankings 2026 | 73rd | 4th | [THE, 9 October 2025](https://www.timeshighereducation.com/student/best-universities/best-universities-australia) | In QS 2027 ANU climbed three places to 29th with an overall score of 87.6 out of 100, improving in six of nine weighted indicators — Sustainability (+19 places), Faculty Student Ratio (+19), Employer Reputation (+7) and Employment Outcomes (+5), according to [ANU, 18 June 2026](https://www.anu.edu.au/news/all-news/anu-climbs-in-qs-world-university-rankings). The Australian order in the same edition was UNSW 19th, Melbourne 22nd, Sydney 28th, ANU 29th, Monash 31st and UQ 40th, per [ABC News, 18 June 2026](https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-06-18/global-university-rankings-unsw-top-performer/106808096). ### Why the ranking matters for a scholarship applicant The Saudi Ministry of Education (وزارة التعليم) builds its field lists on global rankings, so a university’s global position shapes where it sits in each scholarship track list. Ranking alone is not enough, though: your field must appear in the list for the track you apply to. ## Is ANU on the Saudi Ministry of Education lists for 2026–2027? The Ministry’s guide to university lists by field (الدليل الاسترشادي لترتيب قوائم الجامعات حسب المجالات) for the 2026–2027 academic year covers three tracks: Al-Ruwwad (الرواد), Research and Development (البحث والتطوير) and Emdad (إمداد). The Al-Ruwwad list contains 30 global universities and includes no Australian university, per [the Ministry of Education guide](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf). ANU does appear in the field lists of the other two tracks: | Field | Position in Research and Development list | Position in Emdad list | Source | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | Natural sciences, mathematics and statistics | 25 | 25 | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | | Social sciences, journalism and information | 25 | 3 | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | | Information and communication technologies | 49 | 32 | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | | Agriculture, forestry, fisheries and veterinary | 57 | 41 | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | | Engineering, manufacturing and construction | 89 | not listed | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | | Arts and humanities | not listed | 27 | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | | Business, administration and law | not listed | 52 | [Ministry of Education, 2026–2027](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) | ### How to read these numbers The figure is the university’s position inside that field list, not its global rank. ANU’s strongest entry is social sciences, journalism and information, where it sits 3rd in the [Emdad list](https://object.moe.gov.sa/nasaq/cm/files/aldlyl-alastrshady-ltrtyb-qwaaem-aljamaeat-hsb-almjalat-2027-2026.pdf) — consistent with its reputation in public policy. The lists are reissued each year, so read the edition that covers your intake. As of September 2026 the King Salman Scholarship Program (برنامج خادم الحرمين الشريفين للابتعاث) shows four tracks on the Ministry site: Al-Ruwwad, Emdad, Research and Development, and Waed, per [the Ministry of Education tracks page](https://sites.moe.gov.sa/scholarship-program/paths/). KD International announced in a [tweet dated 1 August 2021](https://x.com/kdiaus/status/1421765077171163136) that the Excellence track had reopened applications for ANU in selected fields; that announcement is old, so check today’s open tracks on the Ministry site before you apply. ## What are the entry requirements at ANU? ### Academic requirements ANU sets minimum indicative scores by qualification category and assesses you against your chosen program. You may list up to three program preferences per application, and ANU can issue a conditional offer if your documents are incomplete, per [ANU international applications](https://study.anu.edu.au/apply/international-applications). Read your own program page: requirements differ between programs. ### English language requirements | Test | Undergraduate and postgraduate minimum | Clinical and professional psychology programs | Source | | --- | --- | --- | --- | | IELTS Academic | 6.5 overall with 6.0 in each band | 7.0 overall with 7.0 in each band | [ANU English language policy](https://policies.anu.edu.au/ppl/document/ANUP_000408) | | TOEFL iBT (study from 1 January 2027) | 81 overall, Reading 16, Writing 19, Listening 16, Speaking 19 | 100 overall | [ANU English language policy](https://policies.anu.edu.au/ppl/document/ANUP_000408) | | PTE Academic (from 1 January 2027) | 64 overall with 60 in each communicative skill | 70 overall with 65 | [ANU English language policy](https://policies.anu.edu.au/ppl/document/ANUP_000408) | Test results must be no more than two years old at the date of application, extending to four years where you have since completed the equivalent of one full-time year of education in English within the last two years, per [the ANU policy](https://policies.anu.edu.au/ppl/document/ANUP_000408). ## How to apply to ANU, step by step - Choose the program and read its page: academic requirement, English score and available intakes. - Prepare your documents: academic transcript, qualification certificate, passport and English test result. - Apply through the ANU portal and pay the AUD 150 application fee for each application, per [ANU](https://study.anu.edu.au/apply/international-applications). - Watch the dates: Semester 1, 2027 applications close 15 December 2026 (Crawford School programs 31 October 2026), Semester 2, 2027 applications close 15 May 2027, and offers must be accepted by 15 January 2027 if you are overseas, per [ANU](https://study.anu.edu.au/apply/international-applications). - Convert a conditional offer into an unconditional one: the Safeer system requires the official unconditional offer letter stating the field of study and the start date, per [the Ministry of Education](https://sites.moe.gov.sa/scholarship-program/submitting/submit-2/). - Start the [student visa (subclass 500)](https://www.studyaustralia.gov.au/en/plan-your-move/your-guide-to-visas/student-visa-subclass-500) process once your offer and scholarship decision are in hand. You can start with our [application form](https://kdinternational.com.au/applynow/) before you assemble the file. ## What does studying at ANU cost? Tuition varies by program and year and is published on each program page, so read the current figure there. What can be stated today: - Application fee: AUD 150 per application, per [ANU](https://study.anu.edu.au/apply/international-applications). - Student visa application charge: from AUD 2,500 since 1 July 2026, per [Study Australia](https://www.studyaustralia.gov.au/en/plan-your-move/your-guide-to-visas/student-visa-subclass-500). - Evidence of living costs for the visa: AUD 29,710, per [Study Australia](https://www.studyaustralia.gov.au/en/plan-your-move/visa-application-process). ### Are there university scholarships? Yes, and they are awarded automatically on application: the ANU Vice-Chancellor’s International Achievement Award gives 20% off first-year tuition, and the ANU International Achievement Award gives up to 50% off tuition for up to four years, per [ANU scholarships](https://study.anu.edu.au/scholarships). ## What is Canberra like for study? ANU was founded in 1946 in Acton, Canberra, operates under the Australian National University Act 1991, and is organised into six academic colleges, per [ANU](https://www.anu.edu.au/about). Canberra is the administrative capital, home to federal departments and research institutions, which puts public policy, international relations and social science programs close to their field of practice. ## Your next step Start from your field, not the university name: confirm your field appears in your track’s list in the Ministry guide, then read the English requirement on your program page, then book your test well before the application deadline.
